Treble Ridge Farm in Whitefield is seeking a full-time garden manager for the 2013 season. We are a certified organic diversified operation. Our primary "crop" is organic pastured pork, and we grow produce in rotation with our hog pastures, plus about 3/4 acre of permanent garden space. As the operation grows it is becoming apparent that we can't do it all by ourselves, so we are seeking an employee who can take on the daily tasks in the gardens so that we can stay on top of our game managing the hogs and field crops. The position entails primary responsibility for all the manual labor necessary - including planting, thinning, weeding, harvesting, and packing - to grow certified organic mixed produce on a little less than two acres for retail and wholesale markets. We grow many fruits, perennials, and unusual produce items. Some weeks we may also need help with other farm tasks, such as putting hay in the barn or moving fences. Offering 30-40 hours/week at $9.50/hour from early May through at least mid-October. We can potentially offer a year-round position if you are also interested in wintertime forestry work. If you are not quite ready to start your own operation, this could be a great way to earn a guaranteed income doing the work you love! The ideal candidate: -- Has a reasonable level of experience with raising organically grown produce. You don't have to know everything about gardening, but I have to be able to give you an instruction like "go weed and thin the carrots" without having to show you which plants are the carrots and which are the weeds or explain what thinning entails and how far apart the plants should be. Someone with several years experience growing a sizeable home garden and/or at least one full season on a commercial produce operation (e.g. a successful MOFGA apprenticeship!) would be great. -- Is physically fit, able to repeatedly lift 40# to shoulder height and maintain a moderate level of physical activity in warm weather. -- Has an excellent work ethic. -- Is socially compatible with all the other crazies here, but can also stay happy and motivated working alone. For more information about the farm, including all our various contact info, go check out our website at www.trebleridgefarm.com

I am absolutely interested in this position. I attending some MOFGA farm training workshops this summer, including one at your farm! I did an apprenticeship years ago, and have maintained either a small kitchen garden or a giant container garden myself for the past 15 years, so I do have a little experience and am physically fit. Of course, I also have an excellent work ethic and am quite comfortable hanging out with myself. I'm quitting my job in corporate America next month and moving to Sugarloaf, but will be free in April or May; this sounds perfect! Please contact me by email at rat_atat@yahoo.com and let me know what else you'd like to know. Thanks! Jill |
