We are working on a school garden at Skowhegan Area High School. We have some interest from the administration and people in the community. The Jobs for Maine Graduates group is doing most of the work. We need to get a lot of compost on the site soon, as it gets muddy if we wait too long. It's a learning experience for the kids and us. We plan on planting crops that will make it without too much weeding such as pumpkins and winter squash this year. We'll mulch the heck out of the garden and that can provide some organic matter as well. We're making compost, and have access to the town compost as well.

How are your school garden efforts going? We'd love to hear from you!
