POSITION TITLE: Full-time Culinary Arts Instructor
INSTITUTION: Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is a 2-year comprehensive community college in the center of Maine serving approximately 2400 students from Somerset, Kennebec, and Knox counties and well beyond. In 2014, KVCC will expand its Fairfield-based operation to include a new 600- acre Harold Alfond Campus in Hinckley, Maine. To meet the regional labor market demand for new fields of study, the College is launching the KVCC Center for Farm-to-Table Innovation which will include programs in sustainable agriculture, food science, and culinary arts. The successful candidate will not only provide high-quality instruction in culinary techniques, but also offer keen insights that will help students and the community integrate the bounty of local ingredients to form creative, nutritious and healthful eating options in private, institutional, and professional settings.
SALARY: Salary and benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the Maine Community College System and the MEA, Faculty Unit. Level III (Starting salary range $31,641.20-$42,523.12)
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts or comparable credential; successful candidates should demonstrate experience equivalent to at least 5 years in the culinary arts industry or education including preferably 3 years of higher education teaching experience. Strong organizational and communication skills required. Professional certifications are desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary responsibility will be teaching culinary classes in both lecture and laboratory settings. Other duties include oversight of the culinary laboratory, curriculum development, student internships coordination, academic advising, student learning outcome assessment and collaboration with the farm manager and business faculty. Familiarity with instructional technology is desirable. Schedule may include day, evening and online classes.
