An important part of our small farm's work is the intentional engagement of the people in the surrounding area. We feel that our farm has a responsibility to be a positive contributor to the community and it is a lot of fun and personally rewarding. We have created a 4-H club and seek out volunteer opportunities with our local country fair in Springfield. These activities foster the greater understanding of sustainable farming practices, food independence, and the benefits of natural/organic farming. We have the opportunity to demystify "organic farming" and demonstrate that it is simply the most fundamental and natural way to grow food. Community engagement also direct markets MOFGA and our farm. The more work we do with others outside of MOFGA, the more people we are likely to bring into MOFGA membership and organic practice.

I would like to talk with others and share information about community outreach activities and hear from MOFGA farmers practicing community volunteerism. Such a forum would probably give me some new ideas re ways to develop community and also be very encouraging and a source of good news.
