Green Spark Farm cultivates rare and heirloom vegetables, cut flowers, garden seedlings, and medicinal herbs in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. At Green Spark Farm, we grow produce reflecting our food biodiversity: rare and uniquely flavorful and colorful annual fruits and vegetables. We produce beautiful vegetables for the Greater Portland community. We practice ecological agriculture, balancing the ecology of the farm with the surrounding landscape to encourage soil health, plant nutrition, and beneficial insects and microbial life, all of which contribute to a resilient farming system within a wild environment. All our farm products are certified organic by MOFGA Certification Services, LLC.
At Green Spark Farm, we choose to certify our organic practices because the certification process provides ourselves, both as farmers and as food consumers, and our customers with a third-party screening process to safeguard our food from compounds not created by nature that may be harmful to our health and the ecology around us. We believe in the original organic community and what it stands for. The MOFGA certifed organic label is easy to recognize in today's busy rushed world, and this provides consumers with a convenience and level of food safety we can all trust.
We learned to farm organically from studying Sustainable Agriculture in college and from farms where we worked. At Green Spark Farm we grow organically because it's what we understand and believe in for our health and the vitality of the natural environment around our farm, including the bees and beneficial insects we rely on for pollinating many crops, and the insects, frogs and birds who predate many pests.
