Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 at the Riverbend Wellness Center in Kennebunk
Wednesdays, 4:00-6:30 in Fort Allen Park on the Eastern Prom in Portland.
The Black Kettle Farm CSA is 19 weeks of produce from June through October. A share of the full season's harvest is $500, with a variety of payment plants available. A share feeds a veggie loving couple that cooks frequently with fresh produce, or an average family of 4 that also visits the grocery store. Weekly produce will be washed, weighed and ready to go on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 6:30 at the farm in Lyman or for delivery to the Riverbend Wellness Center in Kennebunk. Or on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:30 PM at Fort Allen Park overlooking the Casco Bay on Portland's Eastern Prom. Members bring their own bags to transport their veggies and receive a newsletter with info about the farm and recipes and are welcome to visit the veggie trade basket if there is something they want more or less of.
Black Kettle feeds it's members with over 30 different crops including luscious greens, sweet carrots, robust beets and fragrant onions, along with potatoes, peppers, watermelons, lettuce, squash , cucumbers and much more. Black Kettle vegetables are grown and handled with a focus on flavor, diversity and vitality, resulting in long lasting and health enriching produce. The farm utilizes non-conventional, all natural growing practices to insure soil health and ecological sustainability.
Laura Neale, Black Kettle visionary, has been farming organically for over ten years, kicking off her career as a MOFGA apprentice in 1996. Prior to Black Kettle,she managed a CSA with over 200 members and farmed extensively in Northern California and New England. Adding to her perspective on agriculture, Laura attended the International Slow Food conference Terra Madre in Turin, Italy, was an Apprentice in Ecological Agriculture at the University of Santa Cruz, California, is a current Board Member of WWOOF USA (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) and has worked with a variety of food justice and urban gardening non-profit organizations. That being said, Laura really just likes to grow food in Maine and is inspired by the the deep agricultural traditions and the vibrant local food scene that exist here. In 2009 she started Black Kettle Farm in a forgotten hay field along a river in Alfred. In the fall of 2010, Black Kettle Farm moved to it's permanent home on a windy ridge in Lyman. The farm is an expression of Laura's commitment to collaborating with nature and sharing it's remarkable abundance with her community.
