Whatley Farm is run by Ben Whatley with his parents Laura and Nick Whatley, and certified organic by MOFGA. Ben was a MOFGA apprentice on Broadturn Farm in Scarborough, and is currently a MOFGA Journeyperson. The Whatleys market their produce at the Crystal Spring Farmers Market in Brunswick (Saturday morning May-October) and at the Midcoast Winter Farmers Market in Topsham (Friday afternoons November-April), as well as at Morning Glory Natural Foods, and Brunswick restaurants. 2013 will be the first year Whatley Farm offers a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program for a small group of friends and local families. Ben is also a budding nurseryman, learning to produce grafted fruit trees for Fedco Trees, and an apprentice seed producer for Fedco Seeds (peppers and tomatoes). Ben also teaches classes in homesteading/farming skills at the Long Branch School in Bowdoinham, and helps with John Cullen's cut-your-own Christmas trees on the Willis Road in Topsham--open Saturday/Sunday starting the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Whatley Farm launching CSA, taking signups now for 2013 We are launching a Community Supported Agriculture share program for organic vegetables this season. You'll be able to "invest" in the farm by pre-paying $20/week for 20 weeks of vegetables June-October, and you'll receive a 20-25% return on your investment each week, making our CSA program a great value for organic vegetables. Choose pickup in downtown Topsham, just off I-295, or join our fun, social pick-up group which rotates weekly between spots in the Brunswick and Portland area. Total cost is $400, with $200 due by March 1st as deposit, and the $200 balance due by May 1st. Email whatleyfarm@gmail.com for more info! |
